Topic: “Tucker Finds His Forever Home”- children's book
“Tucker Finds His Forever Home” tells the story of a young pit bull mix dog who is forced out of his home by his family’s landlord. He wakes up in a park and is confused by his surroundings and why everyone is afraid of him. The young dog runs for shelter in an alley where he dreams of his home. The next morning, the Animal Resource Center finds him and takes him to the shelter. Tucker is excited about his new surroundings, a soft bed, and high hopes of being adopted. Tucker’s happiness fades as dog after dog is adopted and he is passed over because they think he is mean. One day, Tucker meets someone special. A woman named Lyla, who thinks he is just perfect the way he is. She adopts Tucker and takes him to her dog-friendly community to give him happiness, unconditional love, and a forever home.

Animal Advocates Radio “Voices Carry For Animals #381”-UPDATE: Lucy the Elephant
Thursday Jan 26, 2023
Thursday Jan 26, 2023
Hosted by Debbie Dahmer aka "Mama Bear"
Guest will be: Mary-Ann Holm -President & Campaign Coordinator at Lucy's Edmonton Advocates' Project (LEAP)
https://www.leapforlucy.com/
https://www.facebook.com/groups/leapforlucy
https://twitter.com/LEAPyeg
TOPIC: Update on Lucy the Elephant in Edmonton Zoo in Canada
Lucy the Elephant has been at the Edmonton Valley Zoo for 46 years and turns 48 this year. This is an ominous milestone as zoo elephants rarely survive to their mid forties. Lucy suffers from a number of zoo induced ailments which will shorten her life expectancy. She has no other elephant companions, which is considered cruel by elephant experts due to their highly complex social needs. The harsh Edmonton climate is detrimental to her health and painful for her ongoing arthritis and foot disease. Lucy lives in a tiny concrete cell and is only allowed outdoors for short controlled walks.
Success! The City is finally willing to accept the offer by Free the Wild and also LEAP's request to submit a list of recommended consultants. LEAP were pleased that one of their recommended vets was chosen. Release of report is still pending.

TOPIC: Protecting America’s Beloved Equines!
The Issue
Drawing on the central historical and cultural role horses have played in the United States, AWA are working to ban the slaughter of horses for human consumption. Americans strongly oppose horse slaughter. AWA also working to ban the transport of all equines for the purposes of slaughter
Every year, tens of thousands of American horses go to slaughter plants in Canada and Mexico, where their flesh is packaged and sent to other foreign markets for consumption. These are healthy animals, by and large, and this is a predatory industry that takes advantage of animals never raised for the plate.
We must press the case. The only reasonable pathway to securing a North American ban on the slaughter of horses from the U.S. is to pass legislation in Congress. One way to take definite steps in that direction is to forbid horse transport for slaughter from more states, as New York recently did in banning the movement of retired racehorses to Canada for slaughter.
AWA champion causes that alleviate the suffering of animals - Helping Animals Helps Us All.

Topics: Discussing the circus and zoo elephants who still need saving. ISSUES FACING ELEPHANTS IN CAPTIVITY
SNN mission is to build on the inspiration of one elephant to encourage advocacy for all captive elephants.
The former owners of Nosey filed an appeal to this ruling which was dismissed in October, 2019. They were also charged with criminal animal cruelty.
In December, 2020, Lawrence County officials discharged Nosey from their possession. The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee- he lawful owners of Nosey.
SNN never gave up on Nosey and won’t give up on other captive elephants. SNN work will continue as long as any elephant is forced to perform and give rides or live an unnatural life for human entertainment. We will take all actions possible until they are free. Please join us!
Captive elephants are most often held alone, forced into a solitary life that goes against the highly social nature of their species.
